Qantas Flight 8 DFW-BNE (Dallas to Brisbane)
I was able to locate and book my flights in October 2013, using 125,000 American AAdvantage miles for round-trip business class. It cost me $153.30 in taxes. As of August 2017, this award now requires 160,000 miles round trip, an unfortunate devaluation.
When I stepped on the plane, a 747-400, the flight attendant looked at my boarding pass, pointed the way & said “you have the best seat in the house.” “That’s what I hoped,” I replied.
Dinner was the only snafu. Before take-off, I had requested the chicken schnitzel when the FA came around to take orders. Shortly after take-off, I was served bread, green leaf salad & champagne. I watched as others around me got their main course. I got nothing. Finally, the FA noticed & gave me my meal.
After dinner it was lights out. It was time to get some shut-eye. I put “Skyfall” on the IFE (in-flight entertainment) because for some reason this movie always puts me to sleep after 15-20 minutes. I slept comfortably, waking up off and on. Periodically, I checked the flight path to see where we were.
Breakfast came out about two hours before we reached Brisbane.
All-in-all, it was a fantastic flight. Definitely not a bad way to spend 16 hours.
